Chinese New Year Event Recap

I'm a bit behind on my recap of the annual Chinese New Year Fundraiser with the Redwood Empire Chinese Association (RECA). (It was 2 weeks ago, I think? I swear there is just not enough room in my brain sometimes.) This is one of my favorite events of the year. I sell books and donate a portion of the profits back to RECA.

I've taken my little nugget the for past few years, but this was the first year she was old enough to enjoy it.(And she even agreed to wear a DRESS, which is about as usual a winning the lottery in our house.) Here she is, helping Mommy sell books. (I am a very proud mama!)

One of the high points of the evening was the dragon dance. My nugget went absolutely NUTS as the dragon dancers raced around the room. When the finished, she frantically signed "more! more!" and went out into the hallway trying to find them.

Oh, and I managed to sell a tidy amount of books, too! But I think you can tell the highlight of the evening was sharing the excitement with my daughter.

  1. Wasn't Chinese New Year last month? Or do you guys celebrate it at a different time in the States? I remember loving all the celebrations as a kid and not being able to wait to go to the festivals every year. I haven't been in such a long time but that's probably because I don't have any kids in my family. It's so great that you were able to enjoy it with your daughter.

  2. That's great! I'm glad you and your daughter had a wonderful time and that you sold some copies of your books. I can only imagine what a Chinese New Years event is like.

  3. @ Cathy - You should go to a Chinese New Year event sometime! Do they have any in the area where you live?

  4. @ Lan - you're right, Chinese New Year is long past! I am just uber behind on blogging about it. :) I love Chinese New Year. When I was a kid, my mom used to visit my classroom at school to teach kids how use chopsticks, fold won tons, etc.
