Speculative Fiction in Education, Post #4: What are your top 3speculative fiction reading recommendations for children?

What are your top 3 speculative fiction reading recommendations for the following grade levels: Elementary, Middle Grade, and High School. (Recommendations can either be authors or titles.)

From Dan Willis: For Elementary readers, I’d suggest the Lemony Snicket books, they are delightful and have a strong educational undertone that most teachers will like.  For middle-grade, the Harry Potter series or the Percy Jackson books are excellent.  For High School students, I’d recommend some of the classics of Fantasy, Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trillogy or David Edding’s Belgariad.

From Eric G. Swedin: Middle Grade: Orson Scott Card, Ender’s Game; C. S. Lewis, Naria series; Anne McCaffrey, Dragonrider. High School: Frank Herbert, Dune; H. G. Wells, War of the Worlds; Robert Heinlein, Starship Troopers.
